AIMS
The Fellowship seeks to provide support and fellowship for Anglican
Evangelicals, men and women, clerical and lay, in the Diocese of Gloucester.
It hopes to be of particular use to those in lonely or difficult situations.
It also hopes to act as an 'Evangelical Voice' in the Diocese, while
at the same time being of service to all without distinction. It also
aims to act as a 'resource' in terms of providing information, giving
reports of the annual Anglican Evangelical Assembly, etc.
We aim also to support the wider Evangelical constituency in the Church
of England by subscribing to the Church of England Evangelical Council
(CEEC) and offering representatives to the Anglican Evangelical Assembly
(AEA).
BASIS
OF FAITH
We subscribe to the Basis of Faith of the CEEC and also to the Object
of the CEEC. Read the CEEC Constitution. (See also www.ceec.info)
ACTIVITIES
To further the above we try to arrange for speakers with particular
expertise to address us or lead discussion meetings, some of which
may be advertised to the wider Diocese as open meetings. We try to
ring the changes on evening and daytime meetings, and on different
venues round the Diocese. As indicated above, we hope to provide both
fellowship and 'instruction'. In addition we usually arrange a social
summer supper (normally with a speaker) when spouses and friends can
also be present.
MEMBERSHIP
In order to cover necessary costs and to support financially the work
of CEEC and the AEA we seek for a paid-up membership of those who
are in sympathy with the above and wish to help Evangelicals to be
'visible' both to themselves and to those outside the Evangelical
constituency. We would urge that there is an undiminished need for
ongoing trusteeship of Evangelical principles and causes (not least,
that of scriptural truth) in the Church of England, quite apart from
the pursuance of our own local concerns; so we do need funds as well
as interest.
A Note
on the Composition of the Church of England Evangelical Council
Apart from five Officers, the Council has the following membership:
Twelve representatives of Diocesan Evangelical Fellowships (8 from
the Province of Canterbury, 4 from York, so that from each Province
half the members shall be clerical and half lay); four members of
the Evangelical Group in General Synod, at least half to be lay; a
senior representative from CPAS and from Church Society; three representatives
from other organisations in the C of E; two senior representatives
from missionary societies, two principals of Evangelical Theological
Colleges; one representative from the Evangelical Alliance; twelve
other 'expert' nominated members.
So
DEFs provide nearly a third of CEEC's members. Our own local support
is important.
